Altcoins Surge as Zcash, Stellar and Cardano Outperform

Altcoins posted some of the strongest gains in the cryptocurrency market on Monday, with Zcash, Stellar and Cardano significantly outperforming Bitcoin and other large-cap digital assets.

Summary:

  • Zcash surged nearly 27%, leading gains among major altcoins.
  • Stellar and Cardano also posted double-digit advances.
  • The rally reflects improving risk appetite across crypto markets.

The rally comes as investors return to higher-risk assets amid improving market sentiment and signs of stabilization following a turbulent start to June.

Zcash Emerges as Top Performer

According to data from TradingView,  Zcash led the advance, climbing 26.75% over the past 24 hours to approximately $535, extending its weekly gain to more than 20%. The privacy-focused cryptocurrency’s market capitalization approached $9 billion, making it one of the strongest-performing major digital assets during the session.

The rally is particularly notable given the regulatory headwinds facing privacy coins globally. Recent restrictions announced in the Philippines and ongoing scrutiny from regulators have weighed on sentiment toward anonymity-focused cryptocurrencies in recent months.

Despite those challenges, investors appear increasingly focused on upcoming network developments. Market participants are closely watching the planned Ironwood upgrade, scheduled for later this summer, which is expected to introduce protocol improvements following security-related concerns disclosed earlier this year.

Technical indicators also point to exceptionally strong momentum. Zcash recently broke above key resistance levels near $500 and surged to an intraday high above $540. The token is trading well above its major moving averages, including the 20-period average near $511, the 50-period average around $492, and the 200-period average near $439.

The sharp recovery also reflects the high volatility that has historically characterized privacy-focused digital assets, where sentiment can shift rapidly following periods of heavy selling pressure.

Market Context and Technical Outlook

While the 27% surge in Zcash (ZEC) is impressive, its deviation from the broader market trend suggests a move driven by specific technical anticipation. The impending “Ironwood” upgrade is clearly serving as the primary catalyst, signaling to investors that the project is prioritizing long-term security architecture over short-term market noise.

From a technical standpoint, while the RSI at 74 flags a short-term “overbought” condition, the sustained volume profile suggests that this is not a retail-led “pump and dump,” but rather a re-accumulation phase by mid-to-large-cap holders. However, traders should monitor whether ZEC can maintain its floor above the 200-period moving average ($439) in the coming sessions; a failure to hold this level could negate the current bullish momentum.

Stellar and Cardano Join the Recovery

Stellar followed closely behind, rising 23.63% over the past day and 12.78% over the past week. The token’s market capitalization climbed above $7.6 billion as traders rotated into established alternative cryptocurrencies.

Unlike Zcash, Stellar’s gains appear largely tied to improving market sentiment rather than a specific catalyst. The network has benefited from renewed investor interest in payment-focused blockchain projects as broader risk appetite returns to digital asset markets.

Cardano also posted strong performance, advancing nearly 12% over 24 hours and more than 9% over the past seven days. The move represents a notable rebound after weeks of weakness that left the token among the poorer performers within the large-cap cryptocurrency sector.

Investors have increasingly viewed Cardano’s recent rally as a recovery from oversold conditions rather than a fundamental shift in market structure. Nevertheless, the rebound suggests buyers are beginning to return after a prolonged period of underperformance.

Broader Market Recovery Supports Altcoins

The gains across Zcash, Stellar and Cardano come as the broader cryptocurrency market attempts to establish a more stable footing after significant volatility earlier this month.

Analysts note that correlations between Bitcoin and major altcoins remain elevated, meaning improvements in overall market sentiment continue to drive much of the sector’s price action. As Bitcoin stabilizes, investors often become more willing to move into higher-risk alternative assets in search of stronger returns.

While recent price action has been encouraging, market participants remain cautious about declaring the start of a sustained altcoin cycle. Trading activity still reflects a degree of uncertainty, and many analysts characterize the current environment as a recovery phase rather than a confirmed long-term uptrend.

For now, however, momentum remains firmly with altcoins. Zcash, Stellar and Cardano have emerged as some of the clearest beneficiaries of improving market sentiment, highlighting investors’ willingness to re-enter riskier segments of the digital asset market as conditions stabilize.
