Binance Pushes Into Forex With 24/7 Perpetual Futures

Binance is extending its derivatives business into foreign exchange with a 24/7 perpetual futures contract tracking the U.S. dollar against the Brazilian real, bringing the always-open structure of crypto markets to an asset normally concentrated within the traditional five-day FX week.
Summary:
- Binance is launching its first FX perpetual futures contract.
- USDBRLUSDT offers up to 100x leverage.
- Trading will remain open 24/7, including weekends.
- Weekend prices will rely on Binance’s own order book.
The USDBRLUSDT contract will launch on September 21 and settle in USDT, with leverage of up to 100x. Unlike conventional futures, the product has no expiration date, allowing positions to remain open without periodic contract rollovers.
The more unusual feature emerges when global currency markets close for the weekend.
Binance Keeps USD/BRL Trading Through the Weekend
During normal FX hours, Binance will calculate the contract’s price index using a weighted average of third-party price feeds. That changes after the traditional currency market closes at 17:00 ET on Friday.
Until FX trading resumes on Sunday, the exchange will switch to an Orderbook EWMA, an exponentially weighted moving average derived from prices on Binance’s own order book.
The contract therefore operates under two different pricing environments. During the week, external currency-market data anchor the index. Over the weekend, price discovery depends more heavily on activity taking place directly on Binance.
That matters because the underlying institutional USD/BRL market is largely inactive during this period. The perpetual can continue responding to economic or market developments, but when conventional FX trading resumes, its opening prices may differ from levels established on Binance over the weekend.
100x Leverage Raises the Stakes
The contract combines continuous trading with high leverage. Its main specifications include:
- Maximum leverage: 100x
- Minimum notional: 5 USDT
- Settlement asset: USDT
- Funding: Every eight hours
- Funding limits: +0.375% to -0.375%
- Tick size: 0.0001
At maximum leverage, relatively small movements in USD/BRL can have an outsized effect on the margin supporting a position.
Weekend conditions introduce another variable. With the underlying FX market closed, available liquidity on Binance becomes particularly important. A thinner order book can increase slippage, widen spreads and allow larger orders to move the contract more aggressively.
The ability to trade on Saturday and Sunday therefore removes the traditional weekend interruption, but it does not eliminate the risks associated with lower-liquidity periods.
Binance Tests Crypto Market Structure on Traditional Assets
Binance has already applied continuous trading to assets whose underlying markets operate on restricted schedules.
Its TradFi derivatives lineup includes products linked to equities and commodities, while the company has also expanded into direct trading of U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs in supported markets.

Foreign exchange takes the strategy into a much larger traditional market. Rather than requiring separate fiat balances, USDBRLUSDT gives traders currency exposure while using USDT as the settlement and margin asset.
The contract also adopts the perpetual structure already common in crypto derivatives. Instead of expiring, periodic funding payments help keep its price aligned with the reference market.
For Binance, the product effectively combines traditional currency exposure with trading infrastructure originally developed around crypto markets.
Weekend Liquidity Becomes the Main Test
Binance has cited its experience with other TradFi perpetuals to support the case for continuous trading. Its own research has found that some weekend moves in commodity and equity-linked contracts anticipated the direction of prices when their underlying markets reopened.
Those findings come from Binance itself, however, and do not show whether USD/BRL will behave the same way.
Currencies present a different test because the global FX market provides deep liquidity during its normal trading week. When that liquidity returns on Sunday, Binance’s weekend price will once again face external prices generated across traditional currency venues.
The important question is therefore not simply whether USD/BRL can trade continuously, but how efficiently Binance’s market functions when those external venues are unavailable.
Deep weekend liquidity could allow the contract to react to new information before traditional markets reopen. Thin liquidity, by contrast, could produce wider spreads, greater slippage and larger discrepancies between Binance’s perpetual and the subsequent FX reopening.
Binance Expands Beyond Crypto
The launch widens the boundary between Binance’s crypto and traditional-market businesses. Traders on the platform can increasingly access crypto, equity-linked instruments, commodities and now foreign exchange through the same stablecoin-based derivatives infrastructure.
For USDBRLUSDT, the first weekends will provide the more useful evidence. Trading volume, order-book depth and the gap between Binance’s weekend price and the traditional FX reopening will show whether continuous currency trading can deliver meaningful price discovery outside the conventional FX week.
