Bitcoin Stabilizes Above $63,000 as Investors Monitor Holder Behavior

Bitcoin climbed back above $63,000 on June 8, sparking a wave of short liquidations and improving sentiment across digital asset markets. The rebound helped lift the broader crypto market capitalization above $2.17 trillion, while the Crypto Fear & Greed Index edged higher from extreme lows.
Summary:
- Bitcoin reclaimed the $63,000 level, triggering a sharp short squeeze across derivatives markets.
- Nearly $600 million in leveraged positions were liquidated over the past 24 hours, with short sellers accounting for the majority of losses.
- On-chain data shows medium-term holders continue moving older coins to exchanges, potentially creating ongoing supply pressure.
Despite the recovery, analytics suggest that underlying market conditions remain fragile. Rising exchange inflows from coins held for three to twelve months indicate that some investors continue using rallies as opportunities to reduce exposure.
Bitcoin Recovery Sparks Large Short Liquidations
Bitcoin trades near $63,200 during early Monday trading after recovering from last week’s sharp selloff. The move pushed the asset back above its 20-period moving average on lower timeframes and helped stabilize sentiment after several days of elevated volatility.
The rally triggered a significant derivatives flush.
According to liquidation data from Coinglass, approximately $599 million in leveraged positions were wiped out during the past 24 hours. Short positions accounted for nearly $437 million of those losses, highlighting the extent of bearish positioning that had accumulated during the recent correction.
Bitcoin and Ethereum represented the largest share of liquidations, with Bitcoin alone accounting for roughly $280 million and Ethereum contributing nearly $174 million.
The move reflects a classic short-squeeze dynamic, where rising prices force bearish traders to buy back positions, creating additional upward momentum.
Technical Structure Continues to Improve
From a market structure perspective, Bitcoin has strengthened considerably since briefly testing support near $60,000.
The asset has reclaimed several key short-term moving averages and is now trading above the 20, 50, and 100-period trend indicators visible on intraday charts. Market participants are increasingly focused on whether Bitcoin can establish acceptance above the $63,000-$63,200 region.

A successful breakout could expose higher resistance levels near $63,500 and $64,000, while sustained strength would improve the probability of a broader recovery toward the 200-day moving average.
At the same time, momentum remains mixed. Trading volumes have not fully recovered from last week’s selloff, suggesting some investors remain cautious despite the rebound.
Older Coins Returning to Exchanges Raise Distribution Concerns
While price action has improved, on-chain indicators present a more cautious picture.
Recent analysis from CryptoQuant shows a notable increase in exchange deposits from Bitcoin held for three to six months and six to twelve months. These cohorts represent medium-term holders who accumulated coins during earlier phases of the cycle and may now be taking profits or reducing risk.

Historically, rising exchange inflows from older coins often coincide with distribution periods, as investors transfer dormant holdings to trading venues where they can be sold.
The latest spikes rank among the largest recorded in recent months and have emerged during a period when Bitcoin remains well below its cycle highs.

Although a single increase does not guarantee further downside, repeated inflow surges can create additional supply pressure and slow the pace of any recovery.
Dormant Bitcoin Ownership Case Adds Another Variable
Analysts are also monitoring a closely watched legal dispute involving ownership claims over approximately 3.8 million Bitcoin held across more than 39,000 dormant wallets.
A New York judge recently delayed default judgment proceedings until July 14, extending uncertainty around one of the largest dormant Bitcoin ownership cases currently before the courts. The dispute reportedly includes at least one address connected to the Mt. Gox era.
The case is unlikely to affect near-term market liquidity directly, but it highlights the continued presence of substantial dormant Bitcoin reserves that remain subject to legal and ownership questions.
Market Faces Competing Bullish and Bearish Forces
The current market environment presents a mixed picture.
On one side, the sharp liquidation of bearish positions, improving technical structure, and stabilization above $63,000 suggest sellers may be losing momentum after weeks of intense pressure.
On the other, elevated exchange inflows from medium-term holders indicate that distribution activity has not fully subsided. Investors who accumulated Bitcoin months ago continue moving coins back onto exchanges, potentially creating resistance during recovery attempts.
For now, Bitcoin appears caught between short-term momentum and longer-term supply dynamics. Whether the latest rebound evolves into a sustained trend reversal may depend less on derivatives positioning and more on whether exchange inflows from older holders begin to moderate in the weeks ahead.
