BitMine Buys 53,501 ETH, Now Just 133,888 Short of 5% Target

BitMine Immersion Technologies added 53,501 ETH over the past week, extending an accumulation campaign that has now run for 65 consecutive weeks.

Summary:

  • BitMine has completed 98% of its “Alchemy of 5%” accumulation target.
  • At its latest weekly buying pace, the remaining gap could theoretically be closed in about three weeks.
  • Most of the company’s ETH is already staked, turning its treasury into a source of recurring yield.
  • ETH near $2,450 is testing a technical area that directly affects the value of BitMine’s concentrated position.

The purchase brought its treasury to 5,901,112 ETH, leaving the company within striking distance of its stated goal of owning 5% of Ethereum’s supply.

BitMine needs another 133,888 ETH to reach 5%

The company’s headline claim that it is “98% of the way” to its target becomes clearer when translated into tokens.

BitMine uses 120.7 million ETH as the current Ethereum supply. Five percent of that figure equals:

  • 6,035,000 ETH

Against BitMine’s current balance of 5,901,112 ETH, the remaining gap is therefore:

  • 133,888 ETH

That is equivalent to only 2.27% of what BitMine already owns.

There is another useful way to put the distance into perspective. BitMine bought 53,501 ETH this week. If it continued accumulating at exactly that rate, it would need approximately 2.5 more weeks to cross the threshold.

The real timeline may differ because purchases vary from week to week and Ethereum’s supply is not fixed. But the calculation shows how close the target has become after 15 months of accumulation.

BitMine’s actual share based on the supply figure provided in its announcement is approximately 4.889%, which the company rounds to 4.9%.

Holding Amount Why it matters
Ethereum 5,901,112 ETH Equal to about 4.9% of BitMine’s stated 120.7 million ETH supply benchmark.
Staked Ethereum 5,067,309 ETH Roughly 86% of the company’s ETH position is already generating staking rewards.
Bitcoin 211 BTC A comparatively small secondary crypto position alongside the ETH treasury.
Cash & Marketable Securities $541M Provides liquidity outside BitMine’s concentrated cryptocurrency holdings.
Beast Industries Stake $180M One of BitMine’s larger investments outside its core crypto treasury.
Eightco Stake $81M Included among the company’s additional strategic investments.
Total Holdings $15.6B Includes crypto, cash, marketable securities and other investments.
Distance to 5%:
BitMine needs another 133,888 ETH to reach 6.035 million ETH, based on the company’s 120.7 million supply benchmark. That equals roughly 2.5 weeks of buying at its latest pace of 53,501 ETH per week.

The calculation also explains why future weekly announcements matter differently now. Earlier purchases demonstrated the speed of BitMine’s accumulation. The next few could determine when it actually crosses a predefined ownership threshold representing one-twentieth of the stated ETH supply.

More than 5 million ETH is already earning staking yield

Owning 5% of Ethereum is only one side of BitMine’s strategy. The company is increasingly putting those holdings to work.

BitMine valued the staked balance at $12.7 billion using an ETH price of $2,511.

The company reported a seven-day annualized staking yield of 2.63% and projected approximately $335 million in annualized staking revenue at the current level.

That changes the economics of reaching 5%.

A conventional corporate crypto treasury depends almost entirely on appreciation of the underlying asset. Staked ETH can also generate additional ETH, meaning BitMine’s balance can grow even before counting new market purchases.

The distinction becomes increasingly material at this scale. Once millions of ETH are staked, even relatively modest percentage yields translate into hundreds of millions of dollars in annualized rewards at current prices.

There are corresponding risks. Staking yields fluctuate, ETH prices can move sharply, and validator operations introduce technical and slashing exposure. BitMine itself lists those factors among the risks surrounding its strategy.

Ethereum is struggling to regain its short-term averages

The accumulation milestone comes while ETH itself is trading without a clear short-term trend.

At the time of writing Ethereum is near $2,450 after rebounding from a sharp decline below $2,400.

The recovery has brought ETH almost exactly back to its 20-period simple moving average at $2,452.53, but price remains below the 50-period SMA at $2,466.41.

That creates a relatively narrow technical decision area.

A sustained move above $2,465-$2,470 would put ETH back above both short-term averages and could reopen the $2,500 area.

Failure to reclaim them would leave the recovery vulnerable to another test of the $2,440-$2,400 zone.

Momentum is similarly neutral. The 14-period RSI sits at 49.07, almost exactly in the middle of its range. That does not indicate either overbought or oversold conditions.

For BitMine, those moves have an outsized dollar impact.

With 5.9 million ETH, every $100 change in Ethereum’s price changes the market value of its holdings by roughly $590 million. A move from $2,450 to $2,500, for example, would add approximately $295 million to the position’s market value before considering any additional purchases.

That sensitivity is more useful for investors than simply noting whether ETH is up or down on the day.

The 5% milestone is now a matter of acquisition pace

BitMine has bought ETH every week since launching its Ethereum treasury strategy on June 30, 2025, according to Chairman Tom Lee. Its latest announcement values the company’s combined crypto, cash, marketable securities and other investments at $15.6 billion.

The next milestone is unusually easy to measure.

Another two purchases equal to this week’s 53,501 ETH would add 107,002 tokens, leaving only 26,886 ETH to go. Three equivalent weeks would take BitMine beyond its target, assuming the company’s 120.7 million supply benchmark remained unchanged.

What happens after that point may be more important than reaching it.

The 5% figure has provided a clear destination for BitMine’s accumulation program. Once the company gets there, investors will need to know whether it treats the threshold as a ceiling, maintains roughly the same ownership share as Ethereum’s supply changes, or simply continues buying.

With only 133,888 ETH separating BitMine from its stated target, that question is no longer theoretical.
