Changpeng Zhao Makes First Statement Post-Prison Release
Changpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance, has spoken publicly for the first time following his release from prison.
In April, Zhao received a four-month sentence after being found guilty of breaching the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) due to inadequate anti-money laundering (AML) measures at Binance. He spent three months in a low-security facility in California before moving to a halfway house in Long Beach.
Zhao was released two days early, as the U.S. Bureau of Prisons allows early release when the scheduled date falls on a weekend or holiday.
On September 29, in a lengthy post on X, Zhao reflected on his initial experiences as a free individual and outlined several initiatives he intends to pursue moving forward. He expressed joy over simple pleasures, stating, “GM, the food tastes so good… And what a luxury to be able to have more than one piece of fruit per day!” He acknowledged that while he might not have answers to all the questions people may have, he remains optimistic about the future.

Zhao emphasized his commitment to supporting emerging fields like decentralized technology, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology, focusing on creating a positive impact rather than just financial returns.
Moreover, he plans to invest more time in charitable activities, specifically mentioning his involvement with the Giggle Academy, which he established in March to provide free education to children in grades 1-12 in developing nations.
He also revealed that he is working on a book, which he has noted is two-thirds complete, and looks forward to finishing it soon.
