Cryptocurrency Startups Raise Over $100 Billion Since 2014

According to latest data from DefiLlama, total industry funding as of June 16th, 2024 is $101.35 billion, compared with $17.14 million in May 2014 five years after Bitcoin’s introduction and a year before Ethereum was founded.

Funding reached $280.25 million in May 2024 alone showing an upward growth trajectory in comparison with earlier figures but lesser than the previous month’s $777.11 million.

The highest level of cryptocurrency startup funding was in October 2021 when they managed to raise more than $7 billion followed by February 2022’s round that resulted in $3.67 billion.

According to recent researches US investors account for nearly half of all cryptocurrency investments while UK (7.7%) and Singapore (5.7%) are the next countries with large investments as of Q2, 2023.

Late last year and early this year high profile funding rounds were recorded where Together.AI and Wormhole raised $225m each; Totter raised $101m while Eigenlayer brought in $100m; Swan Bitcoin raised around $165m whilst Blockchain.com secured about $110m.
