Elderly Woman Sues Bank of America Over $2 Million Scam Loss
An elderly Florida resident, Lynne Bucklin, has filed a lawsuit against Bank of America (BofA), alleging negligence, breach of contract, and violations of federal law.
Bucklin claims that BofA’s failure to protect her resulted in scammers draining $2 million from her accounts.
The scheme began with emails and phone calls from individuals posing as Federal Trade Commission (FTC) investigators, informing Bucklin that her social security number had been compromised.
One scammer, claiming to be an FTC official named Bruce Williams, provided false credentials and persuaded Bucklin to transfer funds into cryptocurrency accounts via wire transfers at a BofA branch in Naples, Florida.
Despite the unusual nature of the transactions, BofA employees allegedly approved them without question.

Bucklin is seeking justice, accusing BofA of negligent hiring, breach of contract, and violations of laws such as the Electronic Funds Transfer Act and the Florida Uniform Commercial Code.
Despite Bucklin’s efforts to recover her funds with BofA’s assistance, the bank was only able to recover $500,000 before closing her case.
