Ethereum Developer Steps Down from EigenLayer Amid Conflict Concerns

Justin Drake has stepped down from his advisory role at EigenLayer just six months after his appointment, following backlash from the crypto community over potential conflicts of interest with his responsibilities at the Ethereum Foundation.
This move comes amid rising concerns within the Ethereum community regarding the blurred lines between developers’ roles and their involvement in external projects, a topic that has sparked significant debate among prominent figures in the space.
Drake acknowledged that accepting the position was a mistake, stating, “Looking back, I recognize this was a misstep,” and confirmed that he had not vested any EIGEN tokens before resigning. To emphasize his commitment to neutrality, he pledged to avoid all future advisory roles and investments. In his statement on social media, he expressed his desire to prioritize the integrity of the Ethereum community over personal gain.
Dankrad Feist, another Ethereum Foundation researcher, also resigned from EigenLayer amid concerns about conflicts within the Ethereum community regarding advisory roles. The situation intensified after criticism arose about the overlap between EigenLayer and the Ethereum Foundation.
