Validator data from Beacon Chain shows the exit queue has fallen to zero, meaning no validators are currently waiting to leave the network. At the same time, more than 2.67 million ETH is waiting to enter the validator set, representing an estimated waiting period of about 46 days. The network currently secures approximately 40.4 million ETH, or 33.16% of the circulating supply, through staking.
The imbalance between entry and exit queues suggests validators continue committing capital despite Ethereum trading near $1,800 rather than rushing to unlock holdings after recent price gains.
Cambridge Study Confirms Ethereum’s Post-Merge Energy Shift
The staking data coincides with a new report from the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF), which provides one of the most comprehensive independent assessments of Ethereum’s environmental footprint since the network adopted Proof-of-Stake.
According to the study, Ethereum now consumes approximately 7.87 GWh of electricity annually, representing a 99.98% reduction compared with its energy usage under Proof-of-Work mining before the Merge.
Researchers estimate the network’s continuous power demand at roughly 0.90 MW, while annual carbon emissions have fallen to around 2.37 kilotonnes of CO₂ equivalent.
The report also found that 56.4% of electricity powering Ethereum nodes comes from sustainable sources, including 39.4% renewable energy and 17% nuclear power, exceeding the estimated global average.
Rather than relying on industry estimates, the Cambridge analysis provides third-party verification that many institutional investors and regulators have sought when evaluating blockchain infrastructure.
ESG Is No Longer the Primary Question
For several years, Ethereum’s environmental impact represented one of the biggest obstacles to broader institutional adoption.
The Cambridge findings suggest that issue has largely been resolved. Instead of focusing on electricity consumption, institutional due diligence is increasingly shifting toward operational risks such as validator diversity, geographic distribution and infrastructure concentration.
The report notes that a significant share of ETH nodes remains hosted through major cloud providers, including AWS, Hetzner and OVH. While these providers improve reliability and scalability, they also introduce concentration risks that regulators and institutional investors continue to monitor.

The research also arrives as regulatory frameworks, including Europe’s MiCA regime, increasingly require standardized sustainability disclosures from crypto service providers, giving financial institutions independently verified environmental data when evaluating Ethereum exposure.
Staking Activity Supports Network Confidence
As highlighted by market analyst Max Crypto on X, the current validator queues reinforce that broader picture, underscoring a period of sustained institutional conviction in Ethereum’s long-term utility.

A zero exit queue indicates validators are not actively seeking to withdraw staked ETH despite recent market volatility, while the large entry queue reflects continued interest in participating in network security and earning staking rewards.
Although staking activity alone does not predict future price movements, sustained inflows into validator queues typically indicate long-term participation rather than short-term speculation.
Ethereum Price Holds Recent Gains
At the time of writing Ethereum is trading around $1,798 at the time of writing after rallying from the $1,740 area earlier this week and entering a period of intraday consolidation.
On the 15-minute chart, price action has stabilized just below the $1,800 psychological level following the recent advance. The RSI is near 54, indicating balanced momentum with neither overbought nor oversold conditions, while the MACD has flattened after a bullish crossover, suggesting buying momentum has cooled without showing a decisive bearish reversal.

The short-term chart reflects a market that is pausing after a strong move higher rather than establishing a new directional trend. Whether Ethereum can build enough momentum to move convincingly above $1,800 will likely depend on broader market sentiment and continued institutional demand rather than intraday technical signals alone.
What Institutional Investors Are Monitoring
Rather than energy consumption, institutional investors are increasingly focusing on three areas:
