Grayscale Brings Zcash to NYSE Arca With First U.S. ZEC ETF

Grayscale has launched the Grayscale Zcash Trust ETF under ticker ZCSH on NYSE Arca, converting an existing investment vehicle into the first U.S. exchange-traded product dedicated to Zcash and widening regulated market access to privacy-focused crypto exposure.
Summary:
- Grayscale has converted its long-running Zcash Trust into an NYSE Arca-listed ETF.
- ZCSH gives brokerage investors direct access to ZEC exposure through a regulated security.
- The fund enters the market with an established asset base rather than starting from zero.
- Grayscale will direct management fee revenue toward Zcash ecosystem support and product marketing for a limited period.
The transition follows years in which ZCSH traded through OTC markets rather than a national securities exchange.
ZCSH Arrives With an Existing $314 Million Asset Base
Unlike a newly created crypto ETF that must attract assets from launch, ZCSH inherits the portfolio accumulated by the former Grayscale Zcash Trust. That gives the product an established base of capital and ZEC exposure from its first day on NYSE Arca.
ZCSH at launch:
- Ticker: ZCSH
- Exchange: NYSE Arca
- Assets under management: Approximately $314 million
- ZEC holdings: Roughly 387,200 ZEC
- Management fee: 2.5%
- Structure: Converted from the existing Grayscale Zcash Trust
- Launch date: August 25, 2026
That existing asset base matters because the conversion changes how investors can access the underlying ZEC exposure rather than creating it from scratch. ZCSH now trades through a national securities exchange, broadening its availability through conventional brokerage infrastructure.
The 2.5% management fee is also worth separating from the headline launch figures. For investors holding ZCSH over longer periods, the fee creates an ongoing cost that reduces the efficiency of tracking the underlying ZEC position.
Why the NYSE Arca Conversion Changes Zcash Access
The important distinction is distribution rather than the existence of the underlying ZEC portfolio.
An OTC trust can provide crypto exposure through traditional securities accounts, but an exchange listing puts ZCSH into the infrastructure used by conventional ETFs. Investors can trade shares during normal market hours through brokerage platforms without managing private keys, opening an account at a crypto exchange or directly custodying ZEC.
The structure also gives financial advisers and other market participants a more familiar route to Zcash exposure.
That does not eliminate crypto-specific risks. ZCSH remains economically tied to ZEC, meaning the value of its shares will depend heavily on the underlying token while investors also bear the fund’s expenses.
The 2.5% management fee is particularly relevant. It is considerably more important for long holding periods than for short-term positioning because the expense compounds against the investor’s underlying exposure over time.
Grayscale Is Linking Fee Revenue to the Zcash Ecosystem
Grayscale has also attached an unusual component to the conversion.
The asset manager said management fee revenue generated for up to 12 months following effectiveness of the registration statement will be used to support the Zcash ecosystem and market the product.
The arrangement creates a connection between the ETF’s commercial success and funding directed toward the ecosystem represented by its underlying asset. Higher ZCSH assets would generally produce more management fee revenue, although the precise amount ultimately directed toward ecosystem initiatives will depend on the fund’s asset base over the period.

For Zcash, the relevance goes beyond the immediate capital involved. An exchange-listed investment product places ZEC alongside a growing range of digital assets available through conventional securities infrastructure rather than limiting institutional access primarily to native crypto markets.
From OTC Trust to Exchange-Traded Product
ZCSH’s history also makes the launch different from a standard ETF debut.
Grayscale has operated a Zcash investment vehicle for years. Earlier company filings identified the Grayscale Zcash Trust as an SEC-reporting product trading under ZCSH on OTCQX, and older disclosure documents explicitly contemplated eventually seeking an NYSE Arca listing.
The August conversion therefore represents the completion of a much longer transition.
For existing shareholders, the underlying investment thesis remains exposure to ZEC. What changes is the market structure around that exposure, particularly exchange access, potential liquidity and the pool of investors able to trade the shares through conventional brokerage channels.
A key measure after the launch will be whether ZCSH can attract net new capital, rather than simply retaining the approximately $314 million inherited from the former trust. That distinction will provide a clearer indication of incremental U.S. investor demand for regulated Zcash exposure.
