Michael Saylor Highlights Bitcoin’s Remarkable Returns and Current Challenges
Michael Saylor, co-founder of MicroStrategy, recently took to X to emphasize Bitcoin's remarkable performance compared to other asset classes.
According to a chart he shared, Bitcoin has seen a staggering cumulative return of 21,372,237% since 2011, far outpacing gold, tech stocks, and other investments.
On an annualized basis, Bitcoin has averaged returns of 148%, making it the top performer among all asset classes. Despite this impressive history, Bitcoin’s price performance during the current halving cycle has been relatively lackluster. It is trailing behind MicroStrategy (MSTR) stock and several mining stocks.
Following the launch of Bitcoin ETFs in early 2024, Bitcoin’s price reached an all-time high of $73,737 in March. Interestingly, Bitcoin surpassed the peak of the previous cycle before the halving event, making this bull run unusual.

Currently, Bitcoin is down 12.73% from its record high, and its near-term prospects are uncertain due to a lack of bullish catalysts.
Earlier this week, Bitcoin fell below $64,000 for the first time in over a month. Its struggle to regain bullish momentum is attributed to significant outflows from cryptocurrency investment products and persistent inflation concerns, which are preventing further interest rate hikes.
