Nayib Bukele Discusses AI and Technology with Elon Musk at Tesla Headquarters
During a recent visit to Tesla's headquarters, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele met with Elon Musk to discuss the impact of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, on the future of humanity.
On September 21, Bukele shared a video on X showcasing his tour of Tesla’s gigafactory in Austin, Texas, where Musk welcomed him.
Musk expressed his admiration for Bukele, calling him “an amazing leader,” and shared insights from their conversation about reality and the influence of technology like AI and robotics on the world. Bukele is in the U.S. for the 79th United Nations General Assembly taking place in New York later this month.
During the visit, Bukele gifted Musk some locally sourced coffee, while Musk reciprocated with a can of Coca-Cola.

El Salvador is actively pursuing AI adoption alongside its Bitcoin initiatives to combat inflation and lessen reliance on the U.S. dollar. ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood has forecasted that the country’s GDP could grow tenfold by 2029, citing Bukele’s commitment to transforming El Salvador into a hub for the Bitcoin and AI sectors.
Wood had previously met with Bukele in May to explore investment opportunities linked to Bitcoin and AI, as well as favorable tax policies. Since adopting Bitcoin as legal tender, El Salvador has reportedly earned over $31 million in profit, with Bukele aiming to enhance financial inclusion and innovate remittance processes.
