New Fund Offers Path to EU Citizenship Through Bitcoin Investment
A groundbreaking private equity fund is offering a unique route to Portuguese and EU citizenship by investing in Bitcoin.
Unbound Fund claims to be the first “Web3 fund” to join Portugal’s golden visa initiative, which grants residency and citizenship to foreign investors contributing at least €500,000 (about $544,000) to local ventures.
Unlike traditional real estate investments, this fund will channel investments through Portuguese “special purpose vehicles” (SPVs) managed by Green One Capital and Unbound Capital. Instead of buying Bitcoin directly, the SPVs will invest in Bitcoin ETFs via BlackRock to simplify and secure the investment process.

Investors must purchase a minimum of €500,000 in shares using fiat currency. The fund will be independently audited, and Bitcoin’s price volatility will not affect the visa eligibility of investors, even if their investment dips below €500,000.
Registered with Portugal’s Securities Market Commission (CMVM) on May 24, the fund is currently inactive but authorized. Investors need to maintain their investments for five years and spend 14 days every two years in Portugal to qualify for citizenship. Unbound Fund will support investors through the visa application process and offer options for legal assistance.
