Ondo Expands Tokenized Portfolios With AI and Magnificent 7 Bets

Ondo Finance expanded its Intelligent Portfolios lineup from three to seven products on Oct. 1, adding strategies focused on the Magnificent 7, artificial intelligence and targeted income.

Summary:

  • Ondo Finance has added four strategies to its Intelligent Portfolios platform.
  • The products package multiple tokenized securities into a single onchain position.
  • Three existing portfolios use BlackRock-designed strategies, while the new additions are designed by Ondo.
  • Direct minting and redemption remain restricted to eligible non-U.S. investors.

The launch pushes Ondo beyond putting individual stocks and ETFs onchain toward a model where asset allocation, rebalancing and multiple securities can be packaged inside a single transferable token.

Four New Tokens Cover Growth and Income Strategies

The additions split into two broad categories. MAG7Xon and BRAINon target thematic equity exposure, while YLD5on and YLD8on are designed around income objectives.

MAG7Xon combines exposure to the Magnificent 7 technology companies with crypto assets. BRAINon targets companies positioned around artificial intelligence. The two income products target annual income levels of 5% and 8%, respectively, although those percentages are objectives rather than guaranteed returns.

Four Strategies Join the Lineup
Ondo-designed portfolios announced Oct. 1
Token Core Exposure Profile
MAG7Xon Magnificent 7 + crypto Thematic growth
BRAINon AI-focused equities Technology growth
YLD5on Income assets 5% target*
YLD8on Higher-income assets 8% target*
*Income targets are not guaranteed returns.

The product mix matters because Ondo is no longer limiting tokenization to reproducing individual financial assets on a blockchain. It is beginning to tokenize the investment decision layered on top of them.

How Ondo Turns an Investment Strategy Into One Token

The portfolios are built using infrastructure from Ondo Stocks, which provides tokenized exposure to publicly traded stocks and ETFs.

Ondo says those underlying tokens are backed by the corresponding securities plus cash in transit and are designed to track total returns, including reinvested dividends after applicable withholding taxes.

Intelligent Portfolios add another layer.

Instead of an investor buying several tokenized securities and maintaining their target allocations manually, a portfolio defines the constituent assets and their weights. Smart contracts handle rebalancing according to the strategy, while the investor holds a single portfolio token.

That makes the structure different from both a brokerage account containing several stocks and the simple tokenization of an existing ETF.

A conventional ETF is itself a regulated fund whose shares represent an interest in its portfolio. Ondo’s structure instead uses tokenized securities as building blocks for a separate onchain portfolio product. The result can then be transferred through compatible blockchain infrastructure as one position.

This creates additional flexibility, but also another layer of dependency. Investors are exposed not only to movements in the underlying assets but also to the tokenization structure, smart contracts, custody arrangements and the mechanisms used to mint and redeem the portfolio token.

BlackRock Designs Three Strategies, Not the Entire Platform

The expansion also makes an important branding distinction easier to miss.

Ondo launched Intelligent Portfolios with three strategies developed by BlackRock for the platform: BLKHIon, BLKDIGon and BLKGRWon, covering high income, diversified growth and high growth. BlackRock provides the model strategies, while Ondo is responsible for implementing them through its tokenized infrastructure.

The four Oct. 1 additions are different. They are Ondo-designed strategies, not BlackRock portfolios.

That boundary matters as the product range grows. BlackRock’s involvement gives part of the platform a traditional asset-management component, but it should not be interpreted as BlackRock designing or managing every portfolio carrying the Intelligent Portfolios label.

24/7 Tokens Still Depend on Traditional Market Liquidity

Ondo’s model creates a practical difference between the hours during which a token can move and the hours during which its underlying securities trade.

Portfolio tokens can be transferred through supported blockchain infrastructure outside U.S. stock-market hours. The equities and ETFs underneath them, however, remain tied to conventional securities markets.

An investor can therefore move a tokenized portfolio at a time when some of its underlying assets are not actively trading on their primary venues. That can complicate price formation and liquidity outside regular market sessions rather than creating genuine round-the-clock liquidity in the securities themselves.

The same distinction applies to minting and redemption.

Direct access requires eligibility checks, including know-your-customer and anti-money laundering procedures, and is available to eligible investors outside the United States. The products currently support Ethereum and BNB Chain, with Solana integration planned.

For DeFi markets, this means token portability and underlying asset liquidity should be treated as separate characteristics.

Why Portfolio Tokens Matter More Than Another Tokenized Stock

Tokenized equities have largely focused on bringing an existing asset into blockchain markets. Portfolio tokens introduce a second question: whether asset management itself can become programmable infrastructure.

A strategy represented by one token can potentially be integrated into a wallet, used by another protocol or transferred between compatible platforms without reconstructing every underlying position. Rebalancing can also occur at the portfolio level rather than requiring the holder to trade each constituent individually.

That could be particularly relevant for onchain asset managers, which have historically had far easier access to crypto-native tokens than regulated securities.

The trade-off is additional structural complexity. A portfolio token sits above several underlying assets and therefore depends on both the traditional infrastructure supporting those securities and the blockchain infrastructure supporting their tokenized representations.

Ondo has indicated that the architecture could eventually incorporate other instruments, including crypto assets, perpetuals, options and futures.

If that happens, Intelligent Portfolios would move beyond baskets of tokenized securities toward portfolios spanning assets that normally trade through different venues and market structures. The more immediate measure of adoption, however, will be whether investors use the seven existing products beyond direct issuance, particularly through wallets, exchanges and DeFi applications where the portability of a portfolio token offers something a conventional brokerage account cannot.

That curiosity never stopped, and eventually pulled him into traditional markets too: equities, commodities, macro. Not because he left crypto behind, but because you can't properly understand one without the other. What drives him is straightforward: he wants to know why something is happening, not just that it's happening. Most market coverage stops at the headline - price up, price down, here's a chart. Alex finds that kind of reporting actively unhelpful. If you walk away from an article without understanding the mechanism behind the move, what did you actually learn? He holds a degree in Tourism from New Bulgarian University - not the most obvious path into financial markets, but markets have a way of pulling in people who are simply too curious to stay out.
