Payment Delays Hit Barclays, HSBC, Nationwide, and Virgin Money Customers
Thousands of customers from Barclays, HSBC, Nationwide, and Virgin Money experienced payment disruptions, causing delays in receiving salaries on payday.
Nationwide reported a “third-party payments issue” affecting several lenders. Pay UK confirmed that the problem stemmed from the Faster Payments system, which led to a small number of transactions being delayed or not processed.
Nationwide acknowledged the issue, stating it affected some customers’ salary or pension payments. Additionally, HSBC customers faced difficulties accessing their accounts online and via the mobile app during the morning. HSBC assured customers their IT teams were working to restore services, with online card purchases still authorized via SMS.

Pay UK confirmed the technical issue had been fixed in collaboration with their infrastructure provider.
