Robinhood’s Chief Legal Officer Considered to Replace SEC Chair
As speculation grows around potential leadership changes at the SEC, attention has shifted to Dan Gallagher, the Chief Legal Officer at Robinhood.
Gallagher could potentially replace current SEC Chair Gary Gensler, especially if Donald Trump is re-elected. Trump has publicly stated his intent to remove Gensler due to mounting frustration with the SEC’s tough stance on cryptocurrency.
Even if Trump isn’t re-elected, rumors suggest Gensler’s position is already on shaky ground, sparking interest in who might take over.
Gallagher, a former SEC commissioner from 2011 to 2015 under President Obama, has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. With critics calling for Gensler’s removal due to the SEC’s restrictive approach to crypto, Gallagher’s name has emerged as a potential replacement.

He has voiced differing views on regulatory strategies and suggested reforms for the crypto industry, including more tailored rules for exchanges and brokers.
Although Gallagher hasn’t confirmed any plans to leave Robinhood for the SEC role, the rumors persist. Other candidates for the position include Chris Giancarlo, known as “CryptoDad,” and Robert Stebbins.
However, Gallagher’s involvement in Robinhood’s legal issues with the SEC could complicate his candidacy. For now, his future at the agency remains uncertain, but his experience makes him a key figure to watch.
