Solana Community Pushes Back Against Criticism Following Libra Token Scandal

Solana continues to gain traction despite facing considerable criticism, largely due to its strong and dedicated community.
Mert Mumtaz, CEO of Helius Lab, is one of its most outspoken advocates. His commitment to the blockchain was evident recently when he defended Solana after the disastrous Libra token incident, which saw billions of dollars vanish due to scams.
After the event, Mumtaz took to social media to criticize those blaming Solana for the issue. He argued that many of the criticisms came from rival blockchain supporters, with Solana outperforming them in terms of activity. He dismissed these detractors, labeling their complaints as “cope” and reminded everyone that crypto has always been a speculative space full of ups and downs. According to him, Solana’s primary role is to facilitate fast and low-cost transactions, and the presence of risky projects is not unique to this chain.

Mumtaz also called out Ethereum supporters for their hypocritical stance, pointing out the need for Ethereum to address its own network limitations. Instead of engaging in constant negativity, he urged critics to focus on building solutions rather than just tearing down others. Despite facing backlash, Mumtaz remains committed to advancing Solana’s technology and supporting the broader crypto ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the controversy surrounding Libra token continues to unfold. Initially backed by Argentina’s president Javier Milei, the project promised to support local businesses but quickly collapsed when doubts about its legitimacy spread. After Milei retracted his support, the token’s price plummeted, and investigations revealed that a few wallets controlled most of the supply, raising suspicions of a scam. This isn’t the first time Milei has been linked to dubious crypto ventures, as he previously endorsed a now-defunct Ponzi scheme called CoinX, leading to millions in losses.
