Steve Wozniak Wins Legal Battle Against YouTube Over Bitcoin Scam Videos

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has secured a victory in his legal battle against YouTube over manipulated videos involving him in a Bitcoin scam in 2020.

A San Jose appeals court overturned a previous ruling, allowing Wozniak to proceed with his lawsuit against YouTube.

This decision may prompt reforms in federal laws governing liability for content on video streaming platforms.

Wozniak, along with 17 others, sued YouTube and Google after doctored videos promoting a fake Bitcoin scam went viral.

The court criticized YouTube for providing verification badges to compromised channels and failing to remove them when scam videos were posted.

This verdict holds YouTube accountable for contributing to fraudulent activities and challenges the protection offered by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

Attorney Joe Cotchett emphasized the importance of the ruling in making social media giants like Google and YouTube accountable for their actions.
