Study Reveals Solana, SUI, and BSC as Fastest Blockchains
Coingecko recently conducted a study on blockchain performance, revealing that Solana, SUI, and Binance Smart Chain (BSC) are the fastest among major blockchains.
The research highlighted that non-EVM blockchains generally operate faster than their EVM-based counterparts. Solana, SUI, and BSC topped the list, followed by Ton and NEAR Protocol.

The fastest blockchain, Solana, achieved an impressive daily average of 1,054 TPS, while the slowest in the top ten, Gnosis, managed 65.6 TPS. Solana led the pack with a remarkable performance, reaching an average of 1,504 TPS during the study, although it still fell short of its theoretical maximum of 65,000 TPS.
Non-EVM blockchains were shown to outperform EVM-based ones in terms of speed. The top performers were primarily non-EVM, with only BNB Smart Chain and Polygon representing the EVM category among the fastest chains. The analysis indicated that non-EVM chains are nearly four times faster than EVM chains.

The study also noted the significant gap between the theoretical and actual performance of these blockchains. While Solana was the only network to exceed 1,000 TPS, it only reached about 1.6% of its potential capacity.
Coingecko’s methodology involved selecting the top blockchains based on Total Value Locked as of May 15th and using publicly available data to calculate TPS. Interestingly, Cardano was not included in the study due to insufficient data. This analysis sheds light on the varying efficiencies of blockchain technologies, emphasizing the speed advantages of non-EVM blockchains.
