Thailand Launches New Crypto Regulatory Sandbox for Innovation and Testing
On August 9, Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) unveiled its new Digital Asset Regulatory Sandbox, designed to test and advance cryptocurrency services within a controlled regulatory environment.
This initiative, officially launching today, aims to foster innovation in the digital asset sector.
The sandbox is open to a range of service providers including digital asset exchanges, brokers, dealers, fund managers, advisors, and custodial wallet operators.
These entities must meet specific criteria related to capital, management, and operational standards to participate. They will also need to define the scope of their services to minimize risks during the one-year testing period, with an option for extension.

The SEC’s move comes after the board approved the sandbox in March 2024, reflecting Thailand’s increasingly supportive stance towards cryptocurrency regulation.
Recent developments include the endorsement of a Bitcoin ETF by One Asset Management and adjustments to local rules to enhance investment opportunities in digital assets.
This regulatory sandbox represents Thailand’s commitment to balancing innovation with investor protection while creating a more favorable environment for cryptocurrency development.
