US Lawmakers Call on White House to Assist Binance Employee Held in Nigeria
A group of US lawmakers is urging the White House to intervene in the case of a Binance employee who has been detained in Nigeria since February.
Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s Head of Financial Crime Compliance, was arrested upon his arrival in Nigeria for meetings with government officials regarding compliance issues related to the exchange.
The Nigerian government filed charges against Gambaryan, along with another Binance executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla, accusing the crypto exchange of destabilizing the country’s local currency, the Naira.
In a letter addressed to President Joe Biden and other officials, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul and Representative Rich McCormick, along with fourteen other Republican representatives, emphasized that Gambaryan’s detention is unjust and politically motivated.

The lawmakers expressed concern over Gambaryan’s treatment in detention, highlighting reports of harsh conditions and his recent illness with malaria, which was initially denied adequate medical attention.
They urged for Gambaryan’s case to be transferred to the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, emphasizing the urgency of the situation for his safety and well-being.
