Zcash ETF Split Scheduled for Sept 30 Following 26% ZEC Price Surge

Grayscale is preparing a 3-for-1 share split for its Zcash ETF (ZCSH) barely a month after the fund began trading, following a rapid buildup in assets and investor inflows.
Summary:
- Grayscale plans a 3-for-1 ZCSH share split.
- Split-adjusted trading starts September 30.
- ZCSH has nearly $890 million in net assets.
- ZEC trades at $1,464.30, up 26.59% weekly.
The announcement comes during another strong week for Zcash. ZEC traded at $1,464.30 at the time of writing, up 26.59% over seven days, with its market capitalization reaching approximately $24.71 billion.
Grayscale Sets September 30 for ZCSH Split
According to Grayscale’s announcement, each existing ZCSH share will be divided into three shares. Investors will own three times as many shares after the adjustment, while the total value of their holdings and their proportional interest in the fund will remain unchanged.
The split follows a short timetable:
- September 28: Shareholder record date at market close
- September 29: Two additional shares distributed for every share held
- September 30: Split-adjusted trading begins
- Ticker: ZCSH remains unchanged
The fund’s net asset value per share will be reduced to approximately one-third of its pre-split level. A position consisting of one share valued at $150, for example, would become three shares worth about $50 each, assuming the underlying value does not change.
A lower per-share price can make whole-share purchases easier for investors using accounts or brokerage platforms without fractional trading. Grayscale has not identified retail accessibility as the reason for the decision, however, and the split itself does not add assets to the fund.
ZCSH Nears $890 Million Less Than a Month After Launch
The timing makes the announcement more notable. ZCSH began trading on NYSE Arca on August 25, giving investors exchange-traded spot exposure to ZEC.
Since its debut, cumulative investor inflows have surpassed $233 million, while the fund held nearly $890 million in net assets as of September 17. Cumulative trading volume has also exceeded $11 billion.
The growth came quickly. ZCSH crossed $500 million in assets under management by September 8, roughly two weeks after its launch. The latest figure means the ETF has added close to $390 million in assets since that milestone.
Part of that increase reflects changes in the market value of the ZEC held by the fund rather than new investor money alone, making the distinction between net assets and cumulative inflows important. The $233 million inflow figure tracks investor capital entering the product, while the fund’s total assets also move with ZEC’s price.
ZEC Climbs 26.59% in Seven Days
According to data from Coingecko, Zcash’s latest rally has pushed the cryptocurrency above $1,460, with its seven-day performance far exceeding its shorter-term moves.
The token was up only 0.41% over the previous 24 hours at the time of writing, suggesting much of the week’s advance had already occurred before Friday’s session.
The difference between the daily and weekly figures is significant. ZEC’s 26.59% seven-day gain has lifted its market value to $24.71 billion, while the latest 24-hour change shows the price consolidating near the upper end of that move rather than adding another double-digit daily advance.
Zcash Mining Power Moves Higher
Network activity has strengthened alongside the price rally. Zcash’s estimated network solrate has risen from around 25 GSol/s in late August to nearly 32 GSol/s, while mining difficulty has moved toward record levels.
The increase shows more computing power competing to mine ZEC following the recent price advance. At the same time, a larger network solrate increases competition among miners for the available block rewards, making profitability dependent on more than ZEC’s spot price alone.
The mining data adds another dimension to the recent expansion around Zcash. ZEC’s market value has risen sharply, the network is attracting more computing power, and an exchange-traded product tracking the cryptocurrency has accumulated hundreds of millions of dollars in assets within weeks of launch.
September 30 Becomes the Next Date to Watch
The share split does not alter ZCSH’s underlying value, but its timing stands out. Grayscale is adjusting the fund’s share structure barely five weeks after its NYSE Arca debut, following rapid early growth in assets and trading activity.
September 30 will provide the first look at ZCSH under its new share structure. The number of shares will triple and the per-share NAV will fall proportionally, leaving investor ownership unchanged. What happens to trading activity and fund flows after that adjustment will show whether the strong demand seen during ZCSH’s opening weeks carries into October.
