“CryptoQueen” Ruja Ignatova Allegedly Underwent a Sex Change Procedure

OneCoin founder and self-proclaimed "CryptoQueen" Ruja Ignatova becomes the only woman on the FBI's list of 10 most wanted fugitives.

Ignatova disappeared in 2017 after allegedly committing a large-scale fraud with her OneCoin Ponzi scheme, resulting in a loss of over $4 billion. The FBI offered a $100,000 reward for information that could lead to her arrest. Although authorities have been searching for her for five years, her whereabouts remain a mystery.

A new sketch of Ignatova suggests that the CryptoQueen may have changed her gender to avoid arrest and evade scrutiny. Ignatova may now be male, as suggested by the latest sketches provided by TradingPedia, the firm leading the research.

Full details of the latest sketches of “CryptoQueen” Ruja Ignatova by TradingPedia can be read here.

Brian McCall, the analyst at TradingPedia who led the study, said that her gender change may be the reason authorities were unable to track her down.

We commissioned a criminal sketch artist to explore the possibilities of what Ruja Ignatova might look like today, based on the most recent photos available before her disappearance in 2017. We asked them to add five years to her age, and also to explore the options of her gaining or losing weight, undergoing cosmetic surgery procedures, and even going to the extreme of changing her gender.

However, it has not been confirmed whether Ignatova changed her gender to avoid authorities. She remains a fugitive at large and was last seen boarding a flight from Bulgaria to Greece in 2017. The flight was from Sofia to Athens and she has been missing ever since.

Where could the crypto thief Ruza Ignatova be hiding?

Journalist Jamie Bartlett has published a series of podcasts detailing Ignatova’s scams and fraudulent activities. You can listen to the podcast in about Ignatova’s crimes, produced by Bartlett for the BBC, here.

“We also believe that she has high-quality fake IDs and has altered her appearance,” Bartlett said. He also suggested the remote possibility that she may already be dead.

In addition, CBS News also reported that “she may be traveling under a fake passport”. CBS added that she could speak English, German and Bulgarian and change her identity according to the situation and location. The news outlet added that she is well-connected in Bulgaria, Germany, Russia, Greece, and the United Arab Emirates.
