Solana Launches Seeker: A Cheaper, Upgraded Successor to Saga
Solana has unveiled its latest smartphone, the "Seeker," which comes at half the price of its predecessor and aims to offer more than just memecoin rewards.
Unlike the Saga, which gained popularity only after a memecoin rally, Seeker is designed to provide substantial crypto utility beyond the realm of memecoins.
The Seeker, available for pre-order at $450 to $500, is set to reward early adopters similarly to Saga but with a broader range of benefits. Emmett Hollyer from Solana Labs highlighted that Seeker would feature a revamped decentralized app (DApp) store and improved hardware, aiming to enhance the overall user experience and support various blockchain applications.

Hollyer emphasized that the Seeker is not merely a “memecoin phone” but a device meant to support diverse crypto applications including decentralized finance (DeFi), payments, and gaming. The new model boasts a better display, improved cameras, and a more efficient battery, though it is not intended to compete with mainstream brands like Apple or Samsung.

The new device is also expected to foster innovation through its open app store, which Hollyer believes will attract developers by removing the barriers seen in platforms like Apple’s and Google’s app stores. Although the current value of airdropped tokens for Seeker users is less than that for Saga users, Hollyer is optimistic that the device will provide a rich ecosystem for various crypto-related apps.
Solana aims for Seeker to be a hub for emerging crypto technologies and applications, including token launchpads and decentralized infrastructure networks.
