Telegram Introduces “Telegram Stars” In-App Token for Digital Purchases

Telegram has rolled out a new in-app token called "Telegram Stars," aimed at facilitating digital transactions on its platform.

Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, unveiled this feature, emphasizing its integration with Android and iOS for seamless in-app purchases.

Developers can convert Stars into Toncoin (TON), Telegram’s native cryptocurrency, through Fragment, a platform used for trading Telegram usernames. Additionally, Stars can be used by developers to promote their apps within Telegram’s ecosystem.

To incentivize developers, Telegram will subsidize advertisements purchased with Stars on Apple and Google, mitigating the 30% commission typically charged on digital sales by these platforms.

Telegram’s initiative to introduce Stars comes after its successful collaboration with Tether (USDT) to integrate USDT on the TON blockchain, highlighting the platform’s commitment to fostering cryptocurrency adoption.

Despite a recent price surge, TON’s market cap remains below its peak, but the introduction of Stars marks a significant step forward in Telegram’s efforts to enhance user engagement and facilitate digital transactions within its platform.
